My heart is for you to succeed. Everything I do is looked at through the filter of “will this help my people succeed?” Identifying who your people are is crucial and that’s why I drill down on it so often.
You’ve probably heard me mention the term “bat signal” before. Essentially your bat signal is your ideal client. Don’t misunderstand me though, I don’t just mean someone who will buy your stuff. Your person is someone who resonates with you so strongly that they know without a doubt you’re there for them. They trust that you know what they’re going through because you’ve been there and gone through it too. You are likely a few steps ahead of this person and have figured some things out that will benefit them greatly.
There is a ton more to bat signal that I can’t sum up in a blog post, but I wanted to reiterate how important it is to correctly identify your person. One way you can do that is by looking at where you were a few years ago and exploring what you were struggling with. Asking yourself some key questions like – if Oprah gave you a billion dollars tomorrow, what problem would you solve in the world? Or – what is something you’ve gone through that fundamentally changed you as a person and that you would want to help others avoid?
If you can clearly identify who your person is then you can begin to talk to them and only them. They’ll know you’re their person by the way you speak to them and that will begin to build trust. Knowing exactly who you’re speaking to is the very beginning of your success path.
One of the most important things you should know is that you will never identify your person by trying to mimic someone else. Just because someone else is having success in a certain area doesn’t mean that you should copy what they’re doing. People crave authenticity and it’s impossible to be authentic while pretending to be someone else.
Be your true self and you will shine so brightly that your people won’t be able to miss you. You’ve got this!
