Let’s face it, there are hundreds of opportunities that bombard us at any given moment. At the end of the day, we need to know what to jump on and what to walk away from because we can’t do it all. Some opportunities can be lifechanging while others will suck your time and not give you any kind of return on investment.
Whenever I have an opportunity come in my direction, the first filter it always goes through is this: “Is this something my people need?”
If it’s not going to be relevant to my people, then I’m not interested. If you’re reading this and you don’t know who your people are, that’s the first thing you need to figure out. That’s the first thing everyone needs to figure out in business quite frankly.
Spoiler alert – “your people” is not everyone. I totally get knowing that what you have can work for literally anyone. The problem is that if you are trying to market your offering to everyone, then no one will know that you’re talking to them. You’ve really got to laser in on who you’re speaking to. If you have no idea how to even begin to figure that out, then you may want to take a look at this super inexpensive course.
The first thing you should ask yourself when looking at an opportunity is whether or not it will help your people. The next question to ask yourself is whether or not you can weave it in to what you’re already doing seamlessly. If you can’t figure out a way to weave it in and have it make sense to your people then leave it alone. Listen, what it’s going to do is take your focus and pull it away from your people.
